A Virtual Journey

“Midsummers Eve”

by Adrienne DeMilner

There is a beautiful town tucked into the mountains of southern Poland filled with amazing architecture and stunning murals. Linda Nemec Foster recently took us on a virtual journey to Bielsko-Biala, the sister city of Grand Rapids, where she spent a month as a poet-in-residence at their university. We enjoyed her stories of the murals mostly painted by women; and the architecture untouched by WWII.

The mural “Midsummers Eve” shown here tells of a sweet ritual of floating candles on a floral garland down a river to find your true love.  We look forward to hearing more about her travels and Poland.

Linda Nemec Foster is a WCC member and the inaugural Poet Laureate of Grand Rapids. She has written 14 collections of poetry, which she has read throughout the U.S.  Linda is also the founder of the Contemporary Writers Series at Aquinas College, and recently taught a workshop in Scotland.
