Girl Scouts of Today

The Girl Scout Mission Statement says “Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.”

The Girl Scouts were founded on March 12, 1912 by Juliette Gordon Low (“Daisy”) in Savannah, Georgia. Since then over 50 million women have enjoyed scouting. Girl Scouts are encouraged to embrace their unique strengths and create their own opportunities. Many women leaders of today, judges, lawyers, astronauts, CEOs, and more were former girl scouts.

Vivian TerMaat, from the Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore, came to speak with us on scouting and gave us a nice overview of the history of scouting and what girl scouts looks like today. Making friends, fun activities and adventures, ways to give back. leadership, and earning badges in so many things are all available.

DreamLab, , “an innovative program-based experience center concept designed to enhance the Girl Scout presence in communities and host one-of-a-kind programming for children, families, and Girl Scouts” recently opened in Kentwood. Vivian encouraged us to visit and see what the Girl Scouts of today are all about.
