WCC enjoyed another wonderful DAY AWAY, this time at the LaFontsee Art Gallery. The owner, Kate Meyer presented an eclectic mix of artwork in the 2-story gallery, a unique blend of beautiful architecture and stunning art, now housed in the former DeKornes Furniture building on Plainfield. If you have not seen it yet, a visit is in order!
The framer, Jamey Limbers talked about purposeful framing and shared some of the important art they have been hired to frame, such as a piece of the Berlin Wall; some George Washington biographies; and (drumroll please) two of Chihuly’s paintings now installed at the Meijer Gardens.
Kate shared that they sell at least 2,000 pieces a year, have 3,000 in inventory, and have a list of businesses that frequent their gallery. We learned about their process of choosing an artist, and that they currently have 75 artists.
This commercial gallery will change artwork 3x per year and we hope to revisit the gallery again as another Day Away. We all enjoyed a lovely lunch at Lucy’s to cap off the afternoon.
